The Process of Creating Chrome Nails
- Clean the nails and trim the nail surface as you would during a normal manicure process. Apply base color (optional). Chrome nails can do on either a clear nail or with a base color. But when it's on a dark color like black it’ll get a better result
- Apply a layer of no wipe gel topcoat, or other gel top coat (non-wipe recommended but not required).
- Cleanse cured top gel with alcohol (skip this step if you're using a non-wipe gel).
- Apply the chrome powder using the silicone tools, a gloved finger, or a sponge applicator. Apply lots of pressure and rub until it's perfectly smooth with NO SHIMMER.
- Brush off excess powders off the nail by using a lint-free pad or paper towel. It’s great if technicians won’t leave any of the excess powder, because it'll leave sparkly, rather than with a mirror-like effect
- Seal with gel top coat. It would be better if adding two coats to be sure that the chrome doesn't chip.
The Amazon listing says that the chrome effect will only last up to 2 hours without the UV top coat…And if you don't apply the base coat, it won't have a mirror effect. Clients have to be careful if they don’t want beautifully shiny chrome nails for just a few minutes. Fashion doesn’t stop with the clothes: extend the unique style all the way to the client’s finger tips! Just remember, there is no room for boring nails in the fashion world - put a pop of pattern or a burst of color on the tips of your fingers and you feel like you can rule the world. Frequently asked questions:
Q | What's different about using this powder to create the effect, rather than foil stickers or a metallic polish? |
A | Nothing else looks as chrome-like or lasts as long. In my opinion, foil is just an added thing for nail art and it has a different texture. |
Q | What has the response from your clients who've tried out the chrome nails been like? |
A | All of my clients are obsessed with them. Everyone who has tried it has gotten it a second or third time, with a different color each time. It also looks great on toes. |
Q | Is this type of powder something people will be able to do at home, or do you think it'll stay limited to in-salon treatments? |
A | I think for people who already do their gel nails at home it's easy for them to try this technique, especially because they'll only have to add a few items to their collection of products. |
Q | Anything else we should know? |
A | I think everyone should try at least one chrome nail, even if they're afraid of nail art. They'll be surprised by how much they love it, even if they're used to only wearing a simple solid color. |
Q | Why do you think this trend is taking off right now? |
A | I first discovered it through Instagram. I think most people discovered it that way or through Facebook or YouTube. These types of powders have been around for a long time, but it's just become trendy and the new techniques are specific to gel. |
